Abstract of 2008 keynote address by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar
India was a leader in innovation several centuries ago. We have an opportunity to start the resurgence of an innovative India today. This will not only entail building new social, legal and economic structures that support innovation, but also making a national symbol of 'I' in 'India' to stand for 'Innovation'. Just as we had launched freedom movement, which freed us from the stronghold of foreign powers, we must launch an 'Indian Innovation Movement' now, so that India can assume its rightful place in the comity of nations. And the time to do it is now, as the dawn of the next millennium approaches.
